Fraser O’Brien, 16 from Abergavenny, has received immense support from local people and businesses to help him on the road to car racing success. Fraser has succeeded in single-handedly raising the funds he needs to pursue his racing career by presenting local businesses with the unique opportunity to support him.

One such supporter, industrial solutions specialist, Motion29, based in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood,
was so impressed by Fraser’s ambition and initiative that they agreed to sponsor his race suit. Co-director of Motion29, Andrew Wilkinson explains more:

“Fraser approached us with a great presentation that he had obviously taken a lot of time putting together. He explained how, in order to finance and maintain his car racing, he was giving local businesses the opportunity to back him. It’s great to see a young person in the local community who has such a big ambition and is actively pursuing it and we were only too happy to help him achieve his dreams.”

Fraser says: “To race professionally is my ultimate goal. I am proud to have the support of Welsh companies and people; it allows me to further my career in racing and hopefully one day reach my goal of racing F1.”

Fraser is anxious to raise the profile and potential of Welsh businesses to a wider audience and his marketing platform provides this opportunity. He adds “My support programme is called, ‘Driving Wales Forward’, and provides Welsh companies an unusual platform for advertising themselves.”

Fraser, who is awaiting his GCSE results and about to embark on ‘A’ levels in chemistry, maths and physics, discovered his talent and passion for racing driving during a trip to his local go-karting track on his thirteenth birthday. He was soon racing competitively and has been Junior Welsh champion in both 4 and 2 stroke categories.

This year Fraser is racing Formula Volkswagen at famous circuits such as Brands Hatch and Silverstone and is the youngest person ever to win a race in the championship. He is also one of the youngest people ever to pass his ARDS (racing car licence) test which he took on his sixteenth birthday.
