Safety Edges for Automatic Swing Gates
As all automatic gates are actually classed as machines under the EU Machinery Directive 98/37/EC, it is important that all manufacturers, suppliers, installers and users of automatic gates ensure that they comply with the directive. As part of this requirement suitable safety edges must be fitted.
The ClickLine range of safety edges are suitable for swing gates installations with the wide range of sizes we have on offer. The safety edges status for swing gates can be monitored using the RFGate wireless switching unit, the safety edges are connected to radio linked transmitters which are monitored for safety edge actuation or system malfunctions. Alternatively, ESGate wired switching units can be used where a safety category 3 solution is required.
Please note, the safety edges suggested in this section are based on typical products used for sliding gates and it is imperative that you carry out a full risk assessment to determine the requirements for your installation. Our Bircher ClickLine Safety Edges are available in a number of different sizes from 25 mm to 65 mm high from the C-Channel. The “Click” foot of the safety edge makes installation of the profiles a simple task of clipping them in from the side of the profile.
Please note that the safety edges are all made to order and may require up to a week to manufacture although lead time is usually two to three days.

The ExpertLine range are suitable for sliding, swing and bi-fold gates, folding or roller doors, lifting platforms and AGV bump strips. The range is certified compliant with EN 12978 and EN ISO 13856-2, sealed to IP67 and offers over travel figures of greater than 72 mm (EL45x99A1x Profile).
The ESGate safety switching units are designed for evaluating safety edges and safety mats. The ESGate 2 is a category 2 device with external test input, whereas the ESGate 3 is a category 3 self-monitored device.
