The ExpertLine is Bircher's first ever self-assembly safety edge range. The ExpertLine range can either be provided in individual modules for customers who are comfortable with self-assembly, or as pre-cut and assembled edges that simply need to be slotted into the mounting rail.
Product Features:
- High sensitivity and a fast response time
- Modular design for easy assembly, installation and maintenance
- Rubber profile covers aluminium rail so the edge can blend in more seamlessly with the gate
- New design allows for smaller profiles without reducing safety
Please note that all prices for rubber profile and aluminium rails are per metre, if you would like a quote for a pre-assembled safety edge, please call us on 01495 360022 or message us via the webchat.
As with all safety edges, it is important that the profile chosen not for it's size but the over travel characteristics. If the over travel of the system is greater than the over travel for the safety edge profile, serious damage or injury could result. In addition to this, it is important to use a force test meter to confirm it's suitability for your installation.
The over travel figures for the ExpertLine profiles at 400 N, 10 mm/s according to EN ISO 13856-2, temperature 23°C, test object ø 80 mm, measuring point C3; together with links to download datasheets specific to each profile are shown below:

To assemble an ExpertLine safety edge you will need to purchase the following components:
- Mounting aluminium rail for fixing the safety edges to your gate order door. There are two options available, the standard aluminium extrusion AP-G1 is used for most applications. However, on some sliding gate applications where the safety edges need to be angled closer to the gate the AP-G1-D20B is the ideal choice. This is manufactured from black anodised aluminium with a 20º angle.
- Safety edge rubber profile, there are three profiles to consider. It is important that the correct profile is used as the type, size and speed of your automatic system (platform, door, gate, etc.) all influence the stopping distance and the force testing results set out in the standards. Overtravel figures (400 N, 10 mm/s), according to EN ISO 13856-2, temperature 23ºC, test object 80 mm diameter, measuring point C3:

- For each complete safety edge you will need the contact end piece with plug (389111), these are sold in pairs with one pair per safety edge!
- The next item on your list will be the appropriate termination for the safety edge. You can create either an end-of-line (with 8k2 resistor) or pass-through (with two cables) formats of safety edges. The safety edges with 8k2 resistor is the very last safety edges in any set of edges, you can use safety edges with two cables in series with the end-of-line safety edges. For this reason, you can have a cable assembly with two connectors to allow the safety edges to be quickly and easily connected in a single circuit. Note there is a maximum number of edges that can be used together depending on the switching unit being used.
- Finally, you need the end cap for the profile. This is the finishing cover that helps protect the safety edge from ingress of moisture and debris. Ensure that you choose the correct end cap for the profile you are using:
EL45x99A1x: 389115
EL45x74A1x: 389117
EL45x49A1x: 389118

The only other item that you will need is a suitable hand shears for cutting the rubber profile to length. These can be found the in accessory section of this page.
Just one important note to add. Please carefully follow the manufacturing instructions, especially when cutting the aluminium and rubber profile. These should be 24 mm shorter than the required finished length of the safety edge. Please download the assembly instructions here!
